If you have a prescription for the meds you are taking, you should be ok, but the fact that you are on so many pain killers may hinder your ability to show that you can care for your son.

What are you taking the prescribed drugs for? Do you have a valid medical condition indicating their use? If so, are you taking the meds as prescribed? Do you not have custody right now because of a substance abuse problem? Is that the reason you haven't seen your son in a year?

The court is bound to protect the interests of your child, and the court is going to care if you are stoned on drugs all the time and whether or not you are an active addict. If your custodial rights were taken away because of substance abuse, you test positive for drugs, your child's mother says you are on drugs, and you have no provable medical condition requiring the drugs, then a prescription isn't going to help you very much. Pill addicts get drugs by presciption all the time.

Should not if you have a prescription. Bring copies of the prescription with you to court.

If you are going through a custody case, remember this bit of wisdom: "A man who represents himself in court has a fool for a client"
