My son usually fights sleep when I try to rock him. He gets a bottle before bed and usually falls asleep while drinking it, but if he doesn't then when it's bed time and he doesn't want to rock in the rocking chair, I just take him to his room and put him in his crib, turn off the light and shut the door a bit. Usually within a half hour he has put himself to sleep. Good Luck!

It really depends on how old the baby is. If its a brand new baby, you have to teach them to sleep at night and not during the day.

If its an older child, the TV program "Supernanny" has some great ideas about how to get a child to sleep. Have you ever watched her?

She suggests that you lay the child in their bed, sit on the floor next to their bed and slowly move out of the room, even if it takes all night and every time the baby gets up, just gently lay them back down and you can't talk to them either.

I raised 3 children and I wish I would have known this when my children were young. Every time I've seen the Supernanny use this technique, it has worked.

Best of luck to you, but seriously watch the show, its very helpful.

My daughter will fall asleep to the sound of the shower running. When she is fighting going to sleep I run the water and either rock her or bounce her in the bouncy chair. I also have a sound machine that plays rain noises. Works every time!

My 1 year tries to fight sleep every night.
First I try rocking him, if that doesn't work I have to just let him cry it out. As much as I hate it, he is cries himself to sleep in about ten minutes.

Ohhh yes.. my son screams bloody murder before every nap and bedtime.. Whether he's up for 3 hours, or 30 minutes, just fed, burped and changed.. he cries :(

When i hold him and try to rock him to sleep, he screams, i try to put him in his crib, he screams.. So if i'm holding him and shh shhing in his ear and patting his bottom for 5 minutes, and still cries, i place him in his crib while standing next to it, wait a minute, pick him back up.. and that usually does the trick.. Maybe it tells him " Hey, you can lay here by yourself, or i can hold you!".. Dont know, but sometimes it takes me 3 times of putting down and picking up untill he settles in.. but it works.. i don't believe in the cry it out method, so this works for me. He is also swaddled and given a pacifier.

My son is 5 months old and is too busy for naps (at least that is what he thinks). When he starts getting sleepy (rubbing eyes, yawning, etc.), I swaddle him, lay down next time him, and give him a boob (since he is still being breastfed) or a pacifier. He is out cold in less than 10 min.

The best thing to do it to hold her close to your chest, so she can feel your heart beat, that is what calmed her when she was in your stomach. I dont know bout where you are but in south africa we have a cd call white noise. It makes the sound babies hear when they are in your stomach. Helped with my 6 week old galllllll!!!!!!!! Dont worry it gets better PROMISE
