Height: You may grow 2 to 8 inches or even taller during puberty. Girls usually stop growing taller about 2 years after starting to menstruate (have periods).

I've read this on many websites and I've been told also but I've also been told that it's not true. What do you think?

This is not true. When you menstruate and when you finish growing in height depends entirely on the individual.

Girls don't stop growing until they are around 21. They don't stop growing 2 years after their period. (I have no idea if the 2-8 inches thing is true)

tbh i was a late bloomer... but not height wise. height wise, i stopped growing around 12 or 13. that would be about 2 years after my first period. most girls i know all stopped growing height wise at a certain age.

Puberty in the human animal generally causes a spurt in growth (male and female). The "period" in a female is the outward sign of puberty. Boys have hair and voice-change as major indicators.

Those changes in hormones can produce a rapid growth spurt if most "normal" humans, but not always (medical problems, defective growth genes, etc.)

A relatively sure sigh that the period known as puberty has been entered is indicated by those things I mentioned, above.

An over-simplification is that girls get boobs, and boys get hair... And "growth" is a very common byproduct..

"Puberty" generally causes "growth" in the human animal...
