So, I hate math and I really suck at it. Can someone please help me. Can someone explain what your supposed to do with a problem like this?

And no, this isn't a question on my homework, I wan't to figure out my homework myself, but my homework problems are similar to this

9/9 =1,
so make the 5 equal to 4 9/9
subtract the 1/9 from the 9/9 and subtract the 1 from the 4...
like this
4 9/9
-1 1/9
=3 8/9

If you are subtracting 1 1/9 from 5 then think this way

5 = 5x 9/9 = 45/9
1 1/9 = 10/9

So

45/9 - 10/9 = 35/9

This equates to 3 8/9

It appears to me you are subracting 1 and a ninth from 5.
Change 5 to 4 and 9 ninths and subract 1 and 1 ninth from it.
4 9/9 - 1 1/9 = 3 8/9 gives you 3 and 8 ninths.
