Take the 5 south all the way like the other people said.
Basically it's very loud and dirty, and a little scary. Just be careful and hide your money. But it can also be pretty fun.

Take a friend, 5 south all the way to the border, park and walk across or drive across "ONLY" if you have Mexican auto insurance.

park on the U.S. side and walk across the border if you don't want to bother with Mexican insurance.
the line to get back across can be very long.
I would check on the length of the wait before you cross over.
