> Does a Harley Davidison Motorcycle need rear blinkers by law?
California: Yes, if you're going to be using your vehicle on a public street.

I believe the answer is what did they come out with originally, as it is with a car or truck. If it didn't come with blinkers and was titled as street legal you don't have to use them, but you MUST use your arm when turning. If you add them, as I think you should, you don't have to use your arm but should. I use both if I see a car approaching as , frankly, the arm gets more attention than just a blinker alone.
If you decide to add blinkers make sure to check the amperage of your bikes stator output!! Some of the bikes that didn't have blinkers won't have the amperage necessary to drive additional standard bulbs. Then you gotta get an LED blinker kit with a special relay circuit to make LED's blink

Im sure its a law . But even if it wasn't , I would think you care about your safety a little more than that. I mean being on a motorcycle is dangerous enough , but now you dont want to let people know your turning intentions ? (unless you use arm)
Maybe look into custom blinkers that dont stick out as much (like on sport bikes) , but not totally remove.

Our top contributor is WRONG, rear signals are usually amber in color for years now.
You can probably get by with hand signals (no turn signals), but not too safe at night, plus is a cop wanted to be a prick like normal, can pull you over and hassle you and probably ticket ya.
They are also starting to integrate the signals into the tail lights, may or may not be an option but worth checking in to
.'course it's hard to be ticketed if they never catch ya. Hard to outrun the Motorola though.

If you don’t like the way the turn signals look get new ones.
Not having turn signals in most situations wont matter at all. But it only takes that one situation where you needed them to make the difference.
Try and find some signals that look really good. They make hundreds of different options and they add to the bike and look real good.

you can take them off if you want as long as you use your arm. Cops will just hassle you for not using your arm. kuryacan makes a nice tail light with arrows built into it that solves both problems you don't have turn signals hanging off your bike but people can still see your intentions.
here is an example

that picture doesn't show the arrow on this one does

I hate the way the things look so I trash them, front and rear. I have a good left arm so who needs 'em. Cops have never hasseled me about not having them. I personally don't care if it's legal or not.

No more than a Honda does!
You don't list the age of your bike.
The age part varies by state. In NH:
Manufactured 1973 or earlier, must have what it came with when new. If you did not have them, you don't need them. If you did, you do.
Basically, whatever safety equipment came from the factory must stay (or be replaced with equal).
