How do you think they stay rich? They fail to take care of their own people. Opting instead to wait until the rest of the world takes notice. Then they will receive lots of aid. What we should do start doing is only matching what their own wealthy people are willing to spend on the causes.

Expand the thought. Can the US afford to pay countries for not building nuclear reactors, for doing some things and not others? The answer is no.
We have a multitude of countries on the payroll. The whole system has to be overhauled. A new paradigm is needed.
Once you give something for free, it then becomes expected. We are not endearing these countries to us, the animosity is only growing.
How do we start change? Hold our own congressman responsible. They have loaned out funds from Social Security, and other resources that were supposed to be secure. Can we say crooks. Democrats and Republicans!

No, Israel is not one of the richest countries in the world. Not even close.
We spent 500 Billion in Iraq so far, and most of the people there hate us. Maybe you should ask about that.

Firstly - please back up your assertion that Israel is 'one of the richest nations in the world'. From where do you get this fact?
Because it's totally, utterly wrong. Israel spends most of her budget on defence, and her economy has suffered in recent years. She is certainly not one of the richest countries - and she's far less wealthy than her vast Arab neighbours.
Secondly: you should be so very, very proud that America supports and helps the ONLY democracy in the entire Middle East. It is one thing that shows how great the USA is.
And you do benefit from this support, because you get Israeli intelligence info. Don't you realise that Israel's enemies are YOUR enemies??? You are battling the same terrorist groups!!!

It probably could afford that, but the anual level of US foriegn aid to all countries, combined, is less than that.
Foriegn aid often does more harm than good, anyway. It's divereted by corrupt governments, creates dependency, and distorts economic forces that would otherwise pull a developing nation in more rational directions. Plus, it's just another bloated-budget item that could be cut.

Even if the US can afford it, the question remains, why should a rich country continue to receive aid from the US? And why should a rich country get more then Rwanda, for example? And why shouldn't countries who were victimized by the US in the recent past-or in the not so recent past-be compensated instead? I really believe that people are normally proud of being independent. But it seems to me that Peres and his likes in Israel are proud of mooching on the US.

Can we afford not to pay them the blackmail they demand . Thats the real question .
It was allied bombing of civilian processing and distribution systems that starved millions of Jews in the camps to death and they know the truth .
Jews knew life in the camps would be hard and resisted going . Had they been told of exterminations they would have fought and died in the streets like men . Instead the camps they thought would have at least food for them and they lined up and went reluctantly but hopeful the war would end soon .

Yes we can afford to support them. Do you have any idea to the degree in which they also support us? They are our eyes and ears of the middle east. They are our stronghold and our best ally in the entire region. Possibly our best ally in the world seeing since many European nations are slagging off their support. So yes....we can definitely afford it.

Very good point! Taxes are high enough. For all the money we spend on such things, I like to see it spent feeding the poor in our country, finding cures for cancer, hiv, etc.
