Our baby girl just turned 4 months old. Should we really be switching to a different soother? The one we have is Avent...newborn to 3 months. What is the difference? Is the nipple shaped Avent okay still or should we be switching to a Nuk where they are shaped differently?

Your daughter will let you know what shape is best for her! However, there are some binkies out there that do boast of being better for your teeth than the average binky, you might stick with the more orthodontic kinds, like Nuk...but I believe Avent is also good. Yes, you should go up to the next grade. It is thicker material, so that as your babies mouth gets stronger, they don't break through and swallow some...and also so they don't just collapse it and ruin it. I would suggest changing it.

The difference is for the palate in her mouth. It is a smaller version for younger children than it would be for an older child. If you want to continue her on a soother, than you will have to change the size because as she grows her mouth and palate will change and the soother you have may be too small.

If your baby is content with what you are using then it's fine to continue to use it.

I found that my kids all perferred the older baby pacifiers as they usually have larger nipples and also were easier for them to latch onto. I always found the MAM brand to be the best for my kids, but every child is different. The only sure way to know is to try them. Your baby will let you know what she likes and doesn't.... trust her.
