Time to wake up young lady
you want to be traditional, you better learn how to cook and do laundry
you want equality, you better get some education, a good job, and contribute
you want romance, its reserved for the first couple of dates, and the movies

Sounds like high priced hookery. Also depends on who owns or rents the place to begin with.
How about this. If I could live on half the amount for food and rent as I do now and still get some sugar on a regular basis, this would be GREAT.
If you're engaged or talking marriage and this is the arrangement, it will be real interesting after the wedding.
In my time of dating, you were glad to "get lucky" much less live in and split the tab. This whole thing sounds screwy and sounds like someone is getting all the advantages.
If you quit feeding the animals, they'll leave on their own.( You just will have to pay all the costs then)

I think romance and a budget are two different things, any financial agreements should be before you get into a living situation, unless one person makes considerably more than the other and doesn't wish to lower his/her living standards it should be 50/50. But if one wishes and can afford steak every night and a big house and cars etc, its on him over and above normal living costs for a person of the lower income.

How about half the rent or house payment? If the partner owns the home will they ask for half the insurance, taxes and repair and maintenance too?

If you refer to actually writing two separate checks at the grocer cashier, then yes, that is going overboard and a mood killer I'm sure.
But if you refer to a monthly check to even out expenses, then no, that is life as an adult.
