He seems to have the credentials.

The only HOF in which Wilson belongs is the Stolen Base Hall of Fame.

He had some good seasons, but his career OBP is .326! That's not even average. His batting average was decent, but a speed guy's job is to get on base in any way possible and Wilson didn't do that very well. He had 600+ appearances many times, but failed to walk more than 40 times in a season - ever.

He won a batting title, one Gold Glove and made the All-Star team twice, while never winning a major award. Those are decent career accomplishments, but not what HOFers are made of.

Wilson was a good player, and fun to watch. But in no way does he belong in the Hall of Fame.

I wouldn't say that he is quite equal to the best lead off hitters of his time (Tim Raines and Ricky Henderson), although being a stalwart center fielder (Raines and Henderson both played LF) is certainly a plus. His OBP is quite low for a lead off guy and while the SB and 3Bs are good, he only scored 100+ runs twice. It is hard to remember him as a huge impact player despite playing on some very good teams... There are so many similar players who are nowhere close to HOF consideration (ex. Willie McGee from the same generation) .

Probably the same reason that his former teammate Frank White isn't in the Hall of Fame. The writers don't consider them to be dominating players of their era, and that they don't have the stats.

Seems simple to me. He wasn't a hall of fame caliber player.

Ummm...no, he doesn't. not even close. That's like asking why Melkey Cabrera isn't going to be in the hall of fame. The answers are obvious.

Wilson wasn't much of a hitter, and outfielders really need to provide power in the post-WWII era.

as far as base stealing his stats are very good, but as far as the rest of his stats are, no way..average player at best, not hall of fame worthy
