Both has a positive and negative effects. They are good in a sense that some people become sexually satisfied if they do these. Masturbating helps people relieve from any tension & also promote sleep. Watching porno makes some couple more sexually arrouse when having sex.
However, these could only become bad when done improperly.. Wrong place, time and manner!

There are differences:
Masturbation does not depict women as objects rather than fellow humans -- porn does.
Masturbation does not give an unreal expectation of how the sex act should take place -- porn does.
Masturbation does not send boys crying to forums like this because their penises are normal rather than digitally enhanced -- porn does.
Masturbation does not involve the degradation/prostitution of other people -- porn does. (What are the women in porn films except prostitutes -- they are doing it for the money. And it degrades the male human beings involved in it too.)
Masturbation does not enrich criminals (some Mob connected) -- porn does. YOUR porn watching helps fund many violent and illegal enterprises.
Masturbation will not put a virus on your computer -- porn sites often do.
Masturbation is free -- porn cuts down on the money availablke for other purposes.
Use your imagination -- it's free and harms nobody.

Masturbation alone is not bad. Watching porn and watching porn while you masturbate is not good. It is like getting hooked on drugs. It is just a matter of time then the rush you get is not enough any more, which spells trouble.

Masturbating and porn in themselves are not bad. Its only when someone lets it affect their, or others lives. There are many people addicted to masturbation but they can live with it and don't let it interfere with their lives. Its not wrong unless someone is negatively affected.
