ones designed expressly for extended battery life.....

features that extend battery life are
bigger batteries (obviously)
smaller screens
slower processors
lower voltage processors
less memory
fewer bells and whistles / expansion facilities

laptops & notebooks are a compromise between performance and portability and usage.

you can extend battery life by turing off features you dont need (say bluetooth, wirelss networks, hard discs, any interface equipment you are not using (PCMIA, external ports), turn off sound, reduce backlight to as low as possible without sacrificing usability

if you are getting truely scabby battery life then the battery pack may need refreshing / replacing.. if its an old laptop using NiCad or NimH then its almost certainly atrocious... modern laptops use Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) batteroes.. but these do loose power over time..

the vast majority of people use a laptop/notebooks as a mobile desktop (ie they move to somewhere and plug it in). relatively few people use it as a truly portable device.

They often last 3 - 5 hours depending on model, the top-spec laptops can last a little longer. The toshiba laptop in currys for £470 has a 4 hour battery life.

Batteries for laptops can be technically bought seperately but the price seems to vary, for a sony battery, a saleperson said it would cost around £100 each, I imagine you can get it cheaper but it is a possibility. So it may not matter how long the batteyr lfie is on the laptop, if you can find seperate batteries at a cheap price.

I ve used the Dell , Acer and Sony
I feel Sony should be ranked top
they have the best battery life's
I heard even Toshiba has a good battery life
but beyond all this if u choose in for a high power like most laptops they give u 65W u can choose 90W then all should be a better batter life
If u constantly need laptop to be connected remotely then i would recommend u to go in for Secondary Battery (Extra)

I have a macbook pro and the battery lasts a good 3 to 3.5 hrs, been very impressed with this given the high spec of the components.
