First off I'd like to say that I'm really greatful for any help that I can get, this is a problem that I've been having for over a year now. I have an Hp Paviliona 1230n pc. The mouse that came with the computer worked fine for a few months, then all of a sudden it froze, and it never worked again. I then got an HP Deluxe Optical mouse and it to worked fine for a few months, but then it started to freeze up too. I would be on the internet or opening files, and it would freeze. Sometimes I could get it to move again if I just waited for a minute other times I'd have to unplug the usb cord then plug it back in. It's been doing this for a year now. I then got a logitech wireless laser mouse, and it worked fine for a few weeks, but now it freezes too, about every other second. I switched back to the optical mouse and it's been doing what it always does. I checked usb hub, and different things but it still does it. Also a message pops up saying that the usb has malfunctioned. Please Help.

Well various may be the causes that make a mouse freeze. You can try some came in my mind with the follow order.
a) Plug the mouse in a different USB port, b) right click on my computer select properties from the window will open select device manager, find the mouse in the list, click the + infront of mouse to expand it, right click on your mouse there select properties and from the new window will open select advanced tab. from there you can increase the :Sample Rate and :Input Buffer Length. Maybe this help. C) try to find and install USB drivers for your Pavilliov. See HP manuals or visit their website for support.
Hope above can help you.

they sell mouse coats.

seriously, what happens when u wait. does it warm up?

If the computer is operating at 100% CPU the mouse will appear frozen. It will restart when the CPU has time to talk to it. Unplugging it may just provide the time or elevate the interrupt so it gets serviced sooner.

Computer can be @ 100% because of viruses, indexing, other background programs.

u need to find out what the CPU utilization is when it happens.

Since u get that message, it could be u are just lucky and seem to get all the bad mice.

If it is plugged into a USB port, try swapping to a different USB port. Try plugging in a new mouse and see if it isn't the connector on the Motherboard. Need more information to be able to help you.
