It has been on all the news for weeks now, we all feel for the people up north and hope that you feel the same for us down south. But until the water is lapping at the prime ministers front door the government doesn't give a monkeys! And where is all the foreign aid?! The UK gives generously to other countries when there is a disaster but do we get anything back? NO!

Probably for the same reason that any cold spell or snowstorm or heat wave (heaven forbid) in New York City makes national headlines here in the US.

It's the media's back yard...they're under the mistaken impression that the rest of the world gives a rat's ***...

...that, and like the region surrounding New York City, the South of England probably sees very little 'exciting' weather.

Haven't you answered your own question?

Nobody down here gives a monkey's about the north - it might as well be overseas for all we care - you speak a foreign language and drink horrible fizzy beer.

I'm only joking - because I disagree with you. There has been plenty in my paper and on the TV about the problems you guys have been having in the north and we do feel for you. It has brought it home to us suffering the same thing down here - what an utter shambles our government have made of the response.

i heard loads about the north but its all over the news about the south because its worse here. theres 1000s of people with no water or electricity. peoples pets have drowned, cars ruined, houses wrecked. and wheres the help when we need it? the amount of money we send abroad to help with disasters like tsunamis. obviously they cant really send money as they r poor anyway but what about europe and america! the devastation round here is awful, yesterday i took my dogs for a swim instead of a walk, the park was totally flooded. the river is now thankfully going down but some places rnt so lucky. my heart goes out to all the people whos homes are ruined and i vow to do all i can to help unlike many people who just stare at the news and do nothing.

Not true, plenty was said about the flooding in Rotherham, Sheffield and Doncaster. Now it is the turn of the Thames Valley. This probably gets coverage because it is the nearest flood to all of the London-based media companies.

What a load of rubbish, the news has been full of flood problems from around the country, since it started months ago. Just another excuse to bash the south! -

Because the written and broadcast media is populated by soft southerners who take their holidays in Salcombe which have been ruined this year. In the north people are mostly illiterate manual labourers who holiday in Benidorm where it is nice and hot.
