i was unaware that rome was a socialist state.
in fact, it wasn't, nor was it organized according to any model that could even be considered 'modern' - at least not after the republic fell and the monarchy rose.
it should also be remembered that rome felt almost no pressure from islamic armies - that's what the crusades were all about. the only european nation that really felt islamic pressure was spain - which i suppose may have been part of rome at one time.
rome was very very very successful, by any measure and experienced a golden age (for some of course, not the conquered) that lasted hundreds of years. depending on how you want to look at it literally - rome existed in some form or other for nearly 1500 years.
rome may have been many things, socialistic was not one of them.
as far as the reference of the guy below me, as usual, i have no idea what the radical cons are trying to say in their broken, semi-illiterate english...

The idea of socialism had not been articulated, but, yes, Rome did put a great deal of resources into placating it's citizens, and became increasingly concerned with internal affairs, rather than what was going on at the fringes of it's empire.
But, yes, there are certainly parallels between Rome in it's decline, and America, today.

Do people not realize that by the Mid 300's AD, the Empire was split into the Western Empire in Rome, and the Eastern Empire in Constantinople?
Each had their own Emperor.
The Business and working class went to Constatinople and the Eastern Empire lived on for another 1000 years.
The "City of Rome" fell because all that was left were the Rich who inherited wealth, and the welfare types. They had no one left to tax as the business people moved to Constantinople.
What was left in Rome, is what the leaders of the Left today are trying to push on us.
Notradamus. Islam began around 700 AD so there was 0 effect on Rome. It should be noted that Rome was constantly at war with the Regions that are now Islam. Carthage (230BC), Egypt, Persians, ect.....

I can't even tell for sure if this is supposed to be a slam at the Democrats because it's so poorly written, but if it is, you've got it wrong. The Republicans are the ones with the "throw more money at it" attitude, and if they had their way everyone but the very rich would end up in the poorhouse. That could easily lead to the decline and fall of American "civilization", because the poor (including what was once the middle class) would eventually rebel against the wealthy ruling class.

America is just a little different than the Roman Empire was way back when. Granted, we have implemented many of the ideas of the Roman form of government, but we have something that the Romans did not have. We have the ability to have a peaceful revolution every 4 years. We have elections of our representative. This allows our government to change and develop as the need arises, and our brief history clearly demonstrates that.
As for the socialism influence, again, it is up to the American people to allow or disallow the socialism to infiltrate our system of government. I believe that the people are finding out who are socialists and what they really stand for even though they don't come out and say it specifically. I am talking about the democrat party of course. Soon enough, the democrat party will be non-existent.

I think what doomed the Romans was complacency and thinking that no one could ever destroy them from within or without. A danger I think the loony left does not see in that they see no harm from allowing radical Islam run around this world. They just want to see if we can just get along.
