Three things, actually.
First, they are vital decomposers. Their maggots jump start the proccess of decay, which allows us to drive without looking at road kill every day.
Second, they are used in medical procedures. They eat dead flesh away from wounds without biting the living stuff.
Finally, they are used to help establish time of death on old bodies. By analyzing their life stage, a forensic scientist can determine a window in which the victim could have died.

Absolutely - they are actually quite beneficial to man, overall.
While they may carry icky diseases and bacteria on their feet, which they then track onto your butter dish, it is their activity in those areas where they pick up these inimical germs that benefit us.
Without various decomposers and scavengers like houseflies, we'd be buried in massive mounds of poop and dead bodies covering the planet. The flies, and even more so, their maggots are vital in cleaning and rapidly recycling the organic material of poop and corpses back into the ecosystem.
So they're not necessarily a critter you'd want to invite over for dinner, but they do indeed perform vital tasks for us.
