Do I have to call ahead, have crews come out to mark off where gas/electrical lines are? Or is it a non-issue when you are only digging 1 ft?

99% is pretty good odds, unless you hit something. A phone call is a lot less expensive than paying for repairs or getting hurt by not knowing. Just a thought. I bought a 22" truck rim for my fire pit. (one of the spokeless ones) It sits up on a few bricks for airflow. I don't have a problem with water filling the pit and promoting mosquitoes. It is better for adding a grate for cooking out also. Good luck with your project.

You might want to call and ask what the average depth is when they bury those lines. If it is less than 1 ft I would have them come mark em off for you. That way you will know where they are from now on for any other digging projects you would have.

Usually any pipes for gas and electrical are at least 2 to 3 feet and up to 6 feet underground. At only 1 foot you should be 99% safe of not hitting anything.

Look around your house. Is the spot where you're planing on digging near any meeter? Pipes and wires are usually run in straight lines from the meeter. How ever keep in mind that if you don't call and you rupture a gas line it's a $10,000 fine (at least in my state) Also, it doesn't cost anything for them to come out.

Always call before you dig! It may or may not be an issue to them. But, if you hit something, and you did not call then, you will be held responsible. It could become a nightmare!
