I have been looking after a laptop which is shortly going to be returned to its owner. The person is not a friend of mine, he does not know me at all, he owes money to my husband, so i dont know if he is trustworthy.

ANyway, I have been using the laptop to purchase home shopping from Tescos, and i also used it to do online banking - because my own computer was not working.

Can he access my details and steal my identity/get my bank details? I phoned my bank and they said he cannot access my details because both Tescos and my bank have secure sites. However i am sure some TV programmes like Watchdog etc advised people to erase their hard disks before letting go of their home computers because some people's details have been accessed even from these so-called secure sites.

Please advise.

PS .. i am Nigerian and so is he!! i love my people but i know that they are good at scamming.

once you log off from any secure online shopping store, no one can get your details. Any time you do online searching look for the yellow security padlock(bottom right hand corner in IE) If the padlock is there after you close no one can find you details. Its good to clear the history files though and cookies folder.

delete all the cookies and internet history.

internet explorer/ tools menu - internet options

also ensure you have not saved any passwords / auto complete. but deleting the cookies should get rid of them

failing that, format the harddrive and reinstall windows if this is an option.

seeing as he owes your husband money, why don't you just keep the laptop until he pays up???

Very unlikely he can access any of your details if you have not saved them on the computer. Just delete all the cookies.

if ur worried, just downlaod ccleaner from the link. when youve got it, run the cleaner and it will delete all history and cookies and also free up loads of space.
then just remove ccleaner and clean up the traces.
no one will know you used the computer and hopefully cant access ur details.
