Blitz - are you kidding? Every one else including Germany claimed when they had major floods - we bankroll these things so we can dip in when it happens to us - it works like insurance.

203 - sorry but I am not talking about bailing people out who didnt take out insurance but I am talking about the general infrastructure that has been damaged and needs reinstating.

WAKE UP TO WHAT IS GOING ON - its not just Mr and Mrs Jones' new sofa that is going t*ts up:-

Hundreds of thousands of properties face power cuts if a plant near Gloucester is flooded by the rising river Severn, Environment Minister Hilary Benn said. Some 45,000 homes and businesses have already been cut off after local power substations were swamped by flood waters that have engulfed parts of England following torrential rain. Benn told Parliament on Monday that at least 200,000 more properties could be hit if extra defences rushed into place at a power distribution station at Walham failed to keep back flood waters surrounding it.

I sincerely hope that some request for funds has been made to the relevant EU department. The floods are extremely serious in the Gloucester/Cheltenham/Evesham areas . People are now without drinking water and power. ( Electricity and water do not sit well together, and the water from the bowsers has to be boiled before it can be used. Try telling that to a thirsty tot. People are buying up all the bottled water. People can't get in to work two of my staff at another unit are stuck at home. They will be paid.! What about the hourly paid for whom no pay will be forthcoming ( yes, there are some employers who still have 18th century working conditions)

Because the Government hasn't got the gumption to even start yet; don't forget it is going to be the Home Office, they don't even know there are floods.

Big Gordon knows he can call on the Great British Tax Payer to stump up, even though we have paid in the the EU fund in mega loads of money.

He also knows that the Insurance Companies will take their time in manufacturing doilies, and plotting new Premiums hyke.

To the Government and the Insurance Companies these floods are going to be a little pot of gold.

Whilst poor Joe Public picks him/her self up and sorts it.

Big Gordon will probably rob the Lottery Fund too, so when the compensation does come in (late) it will drop nicely into the Treasuries coffers.

Maybe we should get the peasant victims of the boxing day tsunami to chip in for new plasma tv's and carpets for the helpless and hard up Brits as well.

As bad as it is for those in the middle of it, in the broader scheme of things I just don't see our level of "need" being that high.

... because we can manage without it. The UK is the 5th richest nation on earth, this flooding hasn't reduced us to helpless cripples. Aid and charity is for those that can't afford or aren't able to help themselves. We simply don't fall into that category.

Why do some people see this as an opportunity for a money grab?

Good question.
I guess it's because the EU only comes to us to get money to pay other countries not the other way round.

The answer is, apparently, because your government is to "proud" (if proud is the right word for this stupidity).
