I actually just read an article about this and it was very interesting. It said that females have an instinct to keep the home clean and tidy since they are the natural care givers in the home, while males are more driven to keep their work place nice. Women are nurtures, hence the nice home, while men are providers, so they care more about the office or wherever they work. Men couldn't care less about how the house looks because that isn't what validates them as a man. Kind of like how a woman couldn't care less about how many horsepower their car is.

Check HIS appartment out/ Its probably pristine. If not, DTMF. You got a looser who misses his mommy.
But, how else can a man he say "I'm pretty useless against a stunning woman like you. But I love you and I need looking after. So if his appartment is, sort of, tidy (don't expect miracles) He's probably OK. If it is clean, tidy and smells of the best furniture polish, its probably becasue you were coming, but its a good sign.
But then be careful! If YOU like your kitchen run the way YOU want it, and HE starts reorganising it the day after your wedding!
I guess the best one above all is talk, talk about. IT is important. Those seemingly tiny things can easily bust up a good relationship thats worth 100 times more than a housekeeper .
And talk deep. Explain that hings like that are important to you because.. (and say why). A lack of care on that level can screw up a career, ruin friendships (like one guy I stayed with who cleaned his dog's bowl out to have cornflakes (true!).
So talk deep. Not "Oh, I'm sorry hunny I just didn't realise. I promise I'll..." Ya Ya Ya... I promise...
I heard that one before!
Then try "OK, do it! I'm going shopping, food and stuff, can you clean up the flat? Back about 6!"
There are slobs and slobs. Don't try to have a relationship with the first kind if you are picky. It won't work. Be careful of the second becasue reformed males can be a pain the ***!
How about "Stay out of MY kitchen, and stay away from my underwear!" Ooop, naughty me, might have given away the secret there!

OMG, I was ranting to my mama on the phone about this exact same thing last night! For some reason my boyfriend simply refuses to use the laundry basket. Even though it's really big and in plain sight, he still just takes off his clothes and leaves them where they land. Here's a suggestion though (I'm trying this starting tonight): when laundry day comes around, only wash the clothes that are in the laundry basket. When he asks why the other clothes weren't washed, tell him if they're not in the basket, they're invisible. He'll learn eventually!

Bedroom? You're in luck, with mine it's the whole house from one side to the other.
I simply sat him down after cleaning and said "Look at this. If you take it out of this state, I am not cleaning it up, period. Don't MAKE more work for me - I try and make your work easier, have the respect to do the same for me"
I had to do that twice then go on strike but the point got made....for now, grrr....

Yes it is normal for males to mess things up because as a kid they mess their room knowing that their mother will clean it up, this is where it all goes wrong the mother cleans the room and the kid gets encouraged that his mom will clean his mess because of which when he grows up he does the same knowing that his gf or wife will clean the mess.

Yeah, I thing it's partly male behaviour, but to be honest, I think that knowing that you'll pick everything up and tidy after him, allows him to be even messier! Try leaving the room in a chaotic state for a couple of days and see if he does anything about it...

I'd have to say that yes most men tend to be sloppy. My bf is the same way. I guess it just doesn't matter to them as much if there is a mess, and maybe they even prefer it that way.

Maybe his mother should have though him, how to clean or tidy up after himself. What a slob he is!! Next time ask him to clean up, the next time he trashes up the place you are not his maid.
