Yes it certainly could as most people thought he was the "beast" in his time, and they thought he would bring the end.
But yes, 666 can mean many things, including the founding of Islam, which I think is NO coincidence.
Why else would there appear the Satanic verses in the most holy book of the religion, the Quran? (Where Muhammed was receiving the inspiration for verses in the Quran not from God or angels, but the devil himself, and he tried to cover it up)
Connect the dots.

The number 666 used as the number of the beast in the Book of Revelations could have been based on Nero. The Book of Revelations was written long after Nero had made scapegoats of the Christians and killed and tortured thousands of them. In theory the writers could have used Nero as the symbol of evil and used his numerical equivalent 666 to signify such.

I would have to believe that the rise of Islam in 666 of the Julian calendar is a coincidence.

It wsa thought in the past that the number 666 referred to Nero Caesar, but it was reckoned from the Hebrew, not the Aramaic.

666 - Your thoughts are out of balance right now, focused too much on the material world or due to mental or emotional imbalance. This sign indicates your thoughts are not clear and you should not continue with this train of thought. Let it pass.

OR
6+6+6=18=1+8=9
Number 9 - Humanitarian, compassionate, romantic, selfless, generous, philanthropic, loving, wisdom, idealist, artistic, spiritual healer, all allowing, other worldly, blending.

Although Fundies twist this part around it would fit a real literal view of the Bible. They deny this cause of their wishful thinking that they'll be raptured. Nero fits. And the 144,000 are already gone. Maybe during the fire, it would be attributed to worldly causes.

No. The number 666 is supposed to mean bad luck and refer to the devil. It basically means that one day the devil will come up and pertray himself as a good citizen. Then he will summon the four horsemen to destroy the Earth. If we live through that then he will simply burn us all.

Actually, now most believe it has to do with a code in the Bible, in which the 666th letter of the Hebrew Bible spells out:
Satan the Accuser.
