A political opinion generally represents one's moral leanings.

Therefore, for a Christian or other monotheist, that moral compass is typically formed directly from their faith. Thus comparing God & Politics is to that person not an apt comparison.

An atheist's view of morality comes from somewhere else (I don't care to speculate), and thus God is not part of the equation.

'Country' is usually valued by the individual based on how it's principles resonate with that person's politics, which come from their moral compass, which comes from God, or somewhere else (in the case of atheists).

Country and Politics seem dependent on God, at least to the religious person.

Now it depends on your belief structure. If your a practicing Christian, it is God. If your atheist, it could be either politics our country depending upon personal preference, but it is not GOD. If your a politician it is politics for sure, that's where the money is, the country is only #1 if it is politically correct but not a heartfelt issue and definately not GOD, unless again you need the conservative RIGHT vote, then again, it can be #1 for the moment.
