I'm sending you a link to the online inburgeringsexam. It might help you getting an idea of the contents of the test.

However, it's important to know that there are some substantial differences with the real test:

1. The real exam is on a lower language level (and therefor more easy for you to understand :))
2. The way of testing is different: in the real exam all questions are introduced with a video which shows the situation the question is about.
3. The real exam has a central theme, a family called Tan. The questions are about their situation and experiences
4. The questions from the exam have been largely tested on foreigners.
5. With the real test, the limit for passing the test is not 80% (as with this Teleactest), but 70%.

So, don't let yourself be put off by this test, I hope it gives you some idea of what to expect. Good luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!!

Kim,
The best thing to do is to talk with Dutch people.
If you can that is.
If you can not, try listening to the Dutch TV, with the subtitles. (Most programs have subtitles for the people who have hearing problems.)
Or the Dutch radio, a station with interviews and music to your liking, that will make you want to learn the language to understand what they talk about.

I am Dutch, I have not done the exam, but my sister in law has. She did already live with my brother then, speaking Dutch with him, and the rest of the family.

An other way to improve your understanding of the language is reading.
Anything and everything can help you, but if you read something you like it is going to be more helpful than stuff you read out of duty.
If you like reading a kind of book, magazine or even website, try to find its Dutch equivalent.
You might find that the Dutch magazines even talk about the same people.

Good luck, and do not hesitate to ask more questions here, we like helping.

For many foreigners, dutch is indeed hard to learn.
Don`t beat yourself over the head about it.

I did the test too, on the internet, and failed miserably.
And i`m dutch.

Best way to practice dutch is :
1) read childrens books
2) watch cartoons (dutch spoken)
3) talk with people.

Practice practice practice.
I know that you`ll learn the quickest this way, as you almost immerse yourself in the language.

Best of luck!
