My friend thinks she is pregnant because she says she has gained five pounds, however her period isnt even due until the first of August. I don't think she would start gaining weight this early. At what stage in pregnancy do you start to gain weight?

It usually isn't until the 2nd trimester. She may be bloating since her period is coming up. she can always take a test to be sure.

Ideally...

You gain no more than 5 lbs your first trimester. And 1-2 pounds for every week after that. But... that doesn't mean she will or won't gain it. While weight isn't really a good indicator of pregnancy (there can be many reasons why a person gains weight) - instincts are usually pretty trustworthy. Just tell her to wait it out until she can test herself. Is she have other symptoms? Morning Sickness? Tender breasts? Bleeding gums?

During your first trimester you gain 3-5 pounds. I started gaining weight my first trimester. At my first doctor's appointment at 10 1/2 weeks, I had gained 4 pounds. My doctor said that's totally normal. Starting in the second trimester weight gain starts to pick up. On the average at this time, most women gain about 1 pound a week. This site below lets you know all about weight gain during pregnancy.

she's not pregnant. at least it doesn't sound like it. if she really wants to know then the best thing to do is wait a couple of weeks after her period was supposed to start. if it didn't come then take a home test. even a cheapo will tell you the truth. i took one 2 days before i was supposed to and it said negative, then i took another one 11 days after and it was positive.

you dont gain weight until you are about 3-4 months. i actually lost about 15 lbs at first because i was so sick i couldnt keep anything down. but slowly around my 3rd month i started to gain it back, even though i was still sick.

i'm 32 weeks right now and i can't wait!

If she's not missed her period, it would be impossible to have gained that much weight. The average person isn't even suppose to gain that much the entire first trimester, usually in the first 12 weeks you gain about 1-2lbs. I'm 21 weeks & still haven't gained weight. Very unlikely the weight gain is anything to do with pregnancy.

I was the shorter, plumper girl. I'd been about 190, 200, most of my adult life. And I met my goal, ten weeks ahead of schedule. And feeling empowered, I decided to drop even lower. I never imagined that I would be 125 pounds, and go from a size 18 to a size 2.

not until the 2nd trimester, you may gain a pound or two in the early weeks, but not alot. She may be bloated or reaining water, but the weight is not from being pregnant.
