The nature of the body, with it's needs and emotions, is to be seflish. Though we don't like to admit it. The emotional nature makes us go to extremes.
Being self-centered is not a good thing. But being oblivious to our own short-comings, createsself-righteousness and hypocrisy. We NEED to have some degree of awareness as to how we are behaving. Not "overly" self-conscious, but self-conscious.
