Great question... ill take a swing..
i believe that people sense of morals are determined by small decisions of moral compromise... sort of like a snow ball rolling down hill... lack of any moral compass at all leads up to people doing inhuman things... but it all falls back to their thoughts... people refuse to take control of there thoughts and compulsions... thoughts lead to actions... i don't think people's goal growing up is "how can i be the most evil person alive" its a series along the way that pave the way to inhuman... as far as nowadays go... people have always done inhuman things.. we just hear about it alot more because people are fascinated about it and it makes the media tons of money... violence and misery sells... but that is a different topic.. humans are social clannish creatures... when excluded from our very nature bad things happen... any who.. that's a loaded question hope i did it justice...

NOwdays? Humans have been doing the wrong things...even in the time of devotion eras in many parts of the worlds. When did we ever do the rights things? Look at world history- starting from European and Spanish invasion to MesoAMerica...90% of the population was murdered.Even worse, history of their communities was re-wriiten by the invaders and made them look like savages. It was worse than Jewish, russian, Gipsy halocaust during WWII by Hitler. India which was a developed country in the past is struggling with poverty because after 200 years of British rule, they stripped the country of everything it had. Look at the wars between Christain and Muslims that were responsible were for millions of deaths. Native Indians were murdered and their land was taken away from them. And now all we do is have Thanksgiving Holiday where no one thinks about Native Indian. We just buy a turkey and thank each other by giving gifts. HOw is that helping Natives? Christmas where Jesus was born and brought enlightenment to so many people, we celebrate that day by showering each other with gifts. Why can't we use that money to really help someone who needs it. Don't we have enough gifts already? Why not help a child to get better education or help someone in need?
Human nature has not been changed, it's just faces have changed, but human greed to get what others have is still there. This is something that none of us can stop.
I would love for people to live in harmony.....
But ALAS! If wishes were horses, I too, would have ridden them!

I tend to think that you are purposely using the word "Unhuman" in your question as opposed to "inhuman". Inhuman conveys the meaning of cruelty, inflicting pain etc. and mainly against lower species , animals.
Unhuman sounds rather less painful and seems to convey the meaning acts that are not humane . since the evolution of time the society has eveolved and great persons had drawn up high standards in living code. Buddha , Jesus, Mahaveera , sankara ... many others set the standards. It is the falling standards in these code of living , I would tend to calla as , unhuman. These would include greed , jealousy, selfishness, violence .

Humans don't do unhuman things, they only do inhumane things. We are by our very nature, a nasty piece of work. How else could the weakest creature on the planet rise to rule it? We are a driven specie that will not stop until we have left the world a wretched ruin. Why? Because we are an angry specie that has lost entire generations to the vagaries of life and nature upon this planet. It is the death of our own, that drives us on until we too are dead or gone from this place of pain. Pain that birthed us and perhaps, to inflict us upon the universe.

The way you raise children is all important...
Children not raised at all will probably be "inhumane..."
Children raised in horrific surroundings, i.e. bad parents, war, strife, poverty, etc...will also probably be "inhumane..." (or inhuman, whatever...)
Children raised by responsible, loving, non-abusive parents will probably Not be that way...
I'm very human...and never do "unhuman" things...
Thanks, Mom & Dad!!! (in my opinion...they did a good job...)
