I own a 2006 Mazda3i 4-door. I purchased it new for $14,900 and it still drives like the day I bought it. It is the base model, but I have tinted the windows, and had LED tail-lights installed. It looks sharp, and I get compliments on it all the time. I am even considering trading my current one in for another, but this time fully loaded. The only downsides I have noticed so far are that they hydroplane easy in the rain, and they are all over the road on a windy day. The car is very peppy too, so watch out for speeding tickets! ;)

Just bought a brand SPANKIN' new Aurora Blue Mazda3. I totalled it in an accident a few days ago but I'll tell ya, you should NOT be worried about this car. Its won countless reviews and lists, and the honda civic is the only one that competes. I test drove the honda civic before I bought the Mazda and I'd say the Mazda sounded better, looks better, is cheaper. I got my Mazda FULLY loaded with leather seats, Bose sound system, e.t.c. for $22,000. Which is still cheaper than a totally standard no option civic.

I love it, I currently own a 06 mazda3 hatchback and a 07 mazdaspeed3. When I was shopping it came as the best of all the things I was looking for: performance, price, looks, reliability, and space for my family. As far as I know there isn't a dark side, all in all I've owned 3 mazdas in my life and never had a problem with any. Good luck!

There's a dark side to every car that you buy. I rented this one for a while and it worked great. Although I've had a Mazda before(older 626) and had tranny/computer issues more than once.

for the model review, I see tons of these cars in Maryland, I guess your area isn't Mazda friendly.
