I do like the "Simpsons" and think the reason why they always stay the same because people sometimes do not want things to change. Can you imagine Bart being 30? Lisa at 28? Maggie going to college? Abe being dead? Homer in a wheelchair and Marge losing her hair?
We cannot fathom that. We always want them to stay that age and that dumb. It is a timeless classic where Mrs.Krabapple is always alone, Skinner's mom is a mean C (and not even his mom, nor is it his real name) and everyone staying, somwhat, the same.

They pride themselves on being so "disfunctional" as a family, but to be quite honest this is the most awsome family ever!
Who wouldn't want a father that just wants to earn $ and do the best for his family, he may seem a little "doh" at times, but I think he's an great dad! (My baby's dad isn't even here!) Then there is Marge, who is raising awsome kids! They have pets that stay around too! I have never really seen any abuse within this show (ok, maybe a little Bart stranglin,...)
As far as I'm concerned... this is a great family, cartoon or not! I wish i had such a full and entertainin family!

because of its flexibility. Most funny cartoons have something limiting it. For example, futurama is limited because it is centered around their job. Or clone high because it was centered around the school. While these types of funny cartoons can last a long time its narrowness will eventually play a factor, doesn't mean they arn't great though.
The simpsons have developed so many multiple characters and has such a flexibility that it's hard to be bored. It's kinda funny that pretty much everyone in town is or has been a main character, kinda nice to be able to bond with an entire town.

I'll go along with that as well as the satire, which stays very timely. They make fun of everyone and everything, with some of the best characters, animated or not in TV. Homer is as funny as it gets.

Because the show has stayed true to itself and hasn't tried to be something different.
It's a cartoon, so I don't mind if the characters don't age. I wouldn't want to see any of them grow up or "change", because then the show would cease to work for their characters.
It's like reading a comic book. Do I really want to see Batman grow old and die? No.

I think it is because everyone can relate to the simpsons, I can see a lot of my family in the simpsons, and they are going through the same things we are, that's why I watch it.

It's because we've grown up with it and it's like an old friend. You combine that and the fact that the cast hasn't gotten greedy or jaded and it keeps pace with the times and there you go. All of that and it can make fun of itself.

because its hilarious, it has perfect timing, and because Conan O' Brien was a writer there. and a little fact, it was in the sound booth when Conan got the call that he would be the late night host.
