not to be mean, but i dont see how making someone like you constutes them as a friend. the truth is they arent your real friend if you have to conform to their likes and beliefs to fit in

i just dont understand how people can strive to make others happy. it should be about you and if your happy. i never cared about being what everyone else wanted me to be. i love the fact that i am not like any other typical girl. i have friends, plenty of them.. but i could care less about if they are like me. me and my boyfriend have very little in common. its our differences that holds us together. i wouldnt be happy if i was pretending to be someone else for friends or anything at all even. eventually wouldnt you lose who you you really are?!

because they want to look perfect in front of others, doing and saying things they wanna hear, just to impress them, they don't want to be 'different' from the world.

I think it has to with growing up, in school how students may have treated a person, as in picked on or bullied. People who do something wrong, often have a guilty conscious and so there for worry about what others think. Not always wrong, but something they're lacking, is self-esteem, Self-love and self-doubt. I always say, the hardest critic in your lifetime is yourself. I take things personally because I tend to be sensitive and I try to be the best I know how. So, when someone doesn't like me, I have to wonder, what did I do? Again thinking its me, its not me, its them.
Just saying it don't bother you is saying it does, your just being stubborn and have this better then tho thinking.. No one else is better the next, its all ego. Get over it. Worry no, care yes. Self-respect! You must respect self, before you can respect anyone else, or anyone will respect you.

Well, there could be some reasons. For example something the Chinese called "filial piety" which is a Confucian way of communicating with the elders etc. That said, being attached to those very peopes opnion about how it should be done, you will never be able to please them, neither you yourself be satisfied. Thats why another asian philosophy called Buddhism advises you to "kill____" before you could really establish a connection with that person. Treat them as they are dead, i.e. with no attachment. thank you.

Many people don't care. Many people do care. I think we should find the ones that don't care and give them a free care bear. We might also give them free hair care and bus fare from here to there. I would also be in favor of putting together a rare scare for them what does not care in the hopes that they would be fair and square and begin to care about their hair. All in all this would make for a more well groomed society in general.

I guess human nature , people love to be admired and respected by others . I'll tell you a story that we have in the Arabic folklore which tells that you will never make every one pleased :
Goha and his son were traveling on their donkey , the little boy was ridding and Goha was walking , some people passed by and they said : That boy is very rude ! How could he ride and let his father walk ? Goha heard this , so he got on the donkey and made his son walk , other people passed and said : Look at that stone hearted man! How could he make a child walk while he rides ? Goha heared this and told his son to get on the donkey with him , people passing by said : Look at these two, don't they have Mercy upon that poor little donkey ? Goha and his son got off the donkey and walked beside it , people said : how stupid are they ! why do they have a donkey then ?? Goha was finally fed up and he told his son : Come on son , help me carry this donkey !!!!
Again the point is : You can never never satisfy all people , so forget about it

I don't worry what others think. I can't change their thoughts. I only concern myself with things I can change or make better. Good luck. 2D

Because I want to be liked. I have no friends but I don't want to have enemies. Better to have zero enemies when you have zero friends.
You don't understand! That's pretty much all I live for: to impress. I guess that's pathetic.
EDIT - I never said "friend". I said I don't want to make enemies when I don't have any friends. Having no friends is bad enough, and I don't want to have enemies to make my situation worse.
