Hey there!

Here's the answer.

-2sqrt(x)=-1-x --> Write the problem.
4x=x^2+2x+1 --> Square both sides of the equation.
0=x^2-2x+1 --> Subtract 4x on both sides of the equation.
0=(x-1)^2 --> Factor out x^2-2x+1. Since x^2-2x+1 is a perfect square trinomial, use the formula (a-b)^2=a^2-2ab+b^2.
0=x-1 --> Take the square root on both sides of the equation.
1=x --> Add 1 on both sides of the equation.
x=1 Use symmetric property of equality i.e. if a=b, then b=a.

So the answer is x=1.

Check the answers.

-2sqrt(1)=-1-1 -->
-2(1)=-2 -->
-2=-2, true.

Since 1 satisfies the equation, the answer is x=1.

Hope it helps!

Let's square the expression.
then
4x = x^2 + 2x +1
(x -1)^2 =0
x=1
This x satisfy the first expression.

-2√x = -1-x

First square both sides

(-2√x)² = (-( x + 1))²

4x = x² + 2x + 1

Subtract 4x from both sides

x² - 2x + 1 = 0

x = 1

-2sqrt(x=-1-x)
square both sides;
4x=1+x^2+2x
x^2-2x+1=0
(x-1)^2=0

x=1.ANS.
