we bought our townhome last year in feb of 2006, i just noticed yesterday leaking from the ceiling in the basment and i when i touched the ceiling it was completely soaked..and ready to fall in. come to find out it is from the bathroom on my upper level and i had to find where it was coming from and it looks like one of the pipes are corrodided and seem to leak through the living room and then down to the basement. when i called my insurance to claim it they are telling me if it looks like a problem that has been going on for a while they wont consider on claiming it ..which to me sounds like bull crap because we had no idea. if that is the case how do i go about fixing it.?.the tub has been there im assuming since they built the place in 1973 because it is one of those steel tubs..i feel like we got screwed in buying our home because when we moved in the ac, furnace and water heater went up then a week later the washer and dryer. we dont know what we are gonna do.

Call a plumber - water seeks its own level - in other words, it could be coming from a different location & following a pipe down & dripping/soaking in a different place.

In this case I would seek the advice of a plumber who would check all the plumbing on that level. You don't want to repair one thing fix the ceiling and have to do it all over again a month later. Most home buyers today insist on a warranty or at the least an inspection by a professional home inspector I'm sorry you had to go through all this.

This is why Home Inspectors should be used when buying a home. A Home Warranty was probably another option you could have purchased or had the seller buy. Now, you are stuck with calling a plumber or handyman to repair the cause and the damages. Sorry if I seem hard on you, but, those are the things that happen in home ownership.

Normally insurance companies are not interested in long term leaks, regarding paying up etc.

Find a local plumber and get him to state on your final invoice that the pipe burst or slipped a joint.

Was the leak coming from the waste or the water supply pipes?

if it incredibly is a water line u ought to close the water off to the domicile. take a torch and warmth the broken section. take some flux( its a solder paste) and brush it over the section. then take some solder and upload to the section. try this mutually as u have the torch heating the pipe. it won't artwork without the warmth... if u on no account did this till now u may be better off contacting a plumber.... stable success

You really need to call a plumber that will troubleshoot your leak and give an honest price for the repair.
