No possibility, not enough plate appearances or production. If he is playing in MLB next year he will probably still qualify as a rookie.

Anything's possible but he is still unproven and has many players to leapfrog ahead of him...

1. Daisuke Matsuzaka 11-7, 3.99 ERA, 131 K's.
2. Hideki Okajima 0.92 ERA, 16 Holds
3. Dustin Pedroia .320, 39 Runs, 22 Doubles
4. Reggie Willits .301, 19 SB, 43 Runs
5. Delmon Young .295, 52 RBI, 45 Runs
6. Billy Butler .333, 26 RBI (34 Games)
7. Jeremy Guthrie 6-3, 2.88 ERA, 84 K's

No it's not impossible, but with such a good rookie class, it's not likely... There are several other rookies like Duncan who have had just a cup of coffee that have also impresed this year, guys like:
Jacoby Ellsbury, Kason Gabbard, Ryan Rayburn, Ben Fransisco, Etc...

Let's see how he finishes the year, there's a reason why he's a rookie at 27 years old.

Slow down . Lots of rookies come out like lightening and then come back to earth once they've been around the league. See where he is after maybe 100 times at bat. I'm not sure if there are any qualifiers for the award. My sense is a player would have to be around for a bit more of the season to be considered in the voting. If he hits 15 - 20 HR the rest of the way and is an integral part of the Yanks reaching the post season, if they should accomplish that, I'd say it wouldn't be out of the question for him to get some consideration for the award.

I've seen multiple references by you guys to the Red Sox rookies, and I wouldn't be surprised if you guys know jack squat about any other team.

You guys say Matsuzaka and Okajima, but really Jeremy Guthrie has been far and away much more dominant as a rookie. Look at his H/9 and ERA, and any other significant statistic. Besides K/9, he owns Dice-K.

This is late July, no way Duncan gets any consideration, unless he hits about 30 HR before the year is done.

No, there are much better canidates such as Delmon Young Diasuke Matsuzaka, Jeremey Gutherie, Akinori Iwamura, Reggie Willits, Kideki Okajima. Even guys like Alex Gordon and Phil Hughes (assuming he comes back sucessfully) have a better shot than Duncan who will probably end up getting only 100 or 200 ab's this year.

There's no way, and here's why: to qualify, he would have to have 3.1 plate appearances per game, not that he plays, but that the Yankees play. That's over 500, and at the end of July, there's no way that he could get that many in. Next year is a possibility (if he performs, of course), but he needs to keep his plate appearances UNDER 100 or so (I don't remember the exact #) in order to be considered a rookie next season.

: )

Unless he is in the lineup and hits a home run every game for the rest of the season there isn't even a chance he will be in the running. There are a lot more deserving players out there who have played the entire year. Four games against the D-Rays and you already want to give him rookie of the year...that is one of the stupidest things I have heard all year.

Unlikely because look at Dice K's season and also look at what Jeremy Guthrie has done with Baltimore. Now if Duncan goes on a tear like Ryan Braun of Milwaukee then maybe but again this would be highly unlikely

He's a 27-year old who never hit above .270 as a career minor leaguer. To expect him to keep up anything close to this pace is ridiculous, and I'd expect him to end up somewhere around .250/.310/.400 by the time the season is done.

Even if he hadn't got a late start, I wouldn't think of him as any kind of contender for Rookie of the Year. That award usually goes to a talented young player, not a journeyman. But, the hype is typical of any player who does well early on as a Yankee - just ask Shane Spencer and Kevin Maas.

Please. Typical Yankee fan. When that skinny closer fanned three in an inning a couple of weeks ago, everyone was ready to annoint him the new Mariano. So, how has he done since then.

Give Mrs. Shelley a break. He's not a top prospect, and only wicked, and I mean wicked diehard Yankee fans ever even heard of him.

Get off your soapbox and get real.

ok first of all you yankee fans get one stellar performance of two out of a guy and you GO APE for the guy and then when he acts like an average player and plays like one you BOO THE HELL OUT OF HIM! learn that they are human like the rest of us and have their ups and downs.
second the guy has only had a few play appearances and it is too late in the season so therefore he will most likely still qualify next yr. also because he just came up he has yet to prove he can be dependable Each AND EVERYDAY in the lineup so Torre may not put him in near enough to be considered for anything.
