Every major league city will have a chance to host an all-star game on a recurring cycle. Tampa Bay will have that opportunity sometime in the future.

Tropicana field is not a pleasant place to watch a baseball game and with most of the all-star games lateley the atmosphere around the stadium has been just as important. Look back a few years to the teams that hosted, all newer ballparks that are fan-friendly.
The other factor is the baseball fans of Tampa aren't as likely to support the other all-star activities as other cities are. Vendors both independent and ones from MLB rely on a large revenue from All-Star merchandising, a market that they couldn't garner in Tampa.
It's possible, yes, but the D Ray fans need to step up big time and show support for their team as well as MLB.

I think unlikely until the AL half of the ASG rotation has no other viable option. So, 2018 at the earliest, at which point the Trop will be 30 years old (was built in 1988, just didn't have a baseball tenant until 1998).

Never. The stadium is an eyesore - No one wants to see a home run contest in a dome.

Over time-- yes they will.
But it wont be for many years. TB is a miserable organazation that wouldnt sell out games if they gave away free tickets and free beer.

probably basbeball will be around for a long time.
They should make a bid or apply or whatever they need to try and get the the All-Star game there.
