I have a 5100b speedstream modem only (no routers). When I do a power reset, I turn off my on/off switch to my modem. It keeps lights on while in the off position. I unplug the modem power cable to get the modem to shut down. and wait a minute or 2 then shut PC down. wait a couple of minutes and plug modem back in (remeber on off switch is off) the lights start doing its thing for a few seconds then the modem shuts down till I turn the power back on. Is this a bad modem? f so what would I have to do to change to a speedstrem 5100. I have 1 that is brand new. Do I have to unstall and reinstall my DSL? Thank you all in advance. Ken

If you are plugging the modem in to the computer using a ethernet cable you should only have to remove the old modem and plug in the new one. If you are connected using a USB cable you will need to install the drivers for the modem.
