Eris, previously known as Xena (unofficial nickname given it by Mike Brown, the discoverer). The IAU renamed "Xena" as Eris (the Roman goddess of discord) September 2006, shortly after giving it, Pluto and Ceres Dwarf Planet status in August 2006.
Sedna is even further out from the Sun than Eris but does not have Dwarf Planet status yet. Sedna was the Innuit goddess of the sea. Ceres was the Roman goddess of agriculture.

Yes, it is confusing. They demoted Pluto from planet to dwarf planet. They promoted Ceres from asteroid to dwarf planet. Xena was never an official name. The object that was unofficially known as Xena for a while is now officially named Eris.
So, ignoring Sedna, which is still not a planet or dwarf planet, the planets and dwarf planets, in order from the Sun are:
1. Mercury
2. Venus
3. Earth
4. Mars
5. Ceres (a dwarf planet)
6. Jupiter
7. Saturn
8. Uranus
9. Neptune
10. Pluto (a dwarf planet)
11. Eris (a dwarf planet)
And ignoring all the dwarf planets, there are only 8 planets; all the ones you knew before but without Pluto.

There currently is no tenth planet. Eris was discovered on 1/5/05. On 8/24/06 it joined Pluto and Ceres as being classified as a "dwarf planet" not a planet. Therefore, there are currently eight planets.
As of july 2007, there were160,015 minor planets numbered and many more not yet numbered. Nearly all of them asteroids.
Trans-Neptunian objects (those farther away than Neptune) mostly reside in the Kupier belt and Oort cloud. The objects in order of size are: Eris, Pluto, 2005FY9, 2003EL61, Sedna, Orcus, Quaoar, and Varuna. None of which are expected to be named "planet".
Objects within the asteroid belt such as Ceres, Pallas, Vesta, and Juno were also once named "planets" but have since been reclassified as planetoids or minor planets.
The number of planets should be expected to remain at eight for some time.

call them regardless of you opt for, dwarf planet or planet. yet there isn't any "actuality" that they knew approximately something. The Sumerians have been around 5,000 years in the past. there isn't any way they could have widespread approximately Eris. the closest Eris ever gets is around the orbit of Neptune. they did no longer have telescopes. there is genuinely NO way they could have widespread approximately Eris or Pluto (or Neptune or Uranus for that count number). as properly those 2 dwarf planets (Pluto and Eris) are no longer the only ones obtainable. they are merely those we've chanced on so a strategies. The Sumerians knew genuinely no longer something approximately Pluto or Eris. all of us comprehend Eris' orbit and it particularly is decrease than no circumstances comparable to this mythical "Nibiru's" orbit that has been defined. no longer even close. i assume it particularly is conceivable that there became an asteroid or comet they have been watching back then and thought it became a planet (merely like some people now erroneously think of Pluto and Eris are planets). And right this moment that comet or asteroid has the two crashed into something else or we see it for what it particularly is and don't make the relationship. yet there isn't any reason to think of that the Sumerians knew something particular. they seem to no longer particularly comprehend lots with regard to the cosmos. undergo in innovations that they thought the Moon became additionally a planet.... So their "10th planet" as on your good judgment could have been Pluto, no longer Eris. because of the fact the Moon could have been Planet # 4 somewhat than Mars. So in actuality as on your final sentence, no i do no longer trust that. The 10th planet IS imaginary to right this moment, as is the 9th. Eris isn't a planet. it particularly is a small chew of ice and rock and is not extra a "planet" than Halley's comet is. i think of it particularly is lots, lots extra in all probability that those Sumerian claims are merely mistranslated. Or this became their version of astrology, which has no foundation in actuality. Yikes you look theorizing that they thought the Moon became a planet, what from what i've got examine they DID certainly evaluate the Moon a planet.

The original name was 2003 UB313, and then Xena was the unofficial name until the IAU gave it the official name of Eris. For fun, it was named Xena after the character on the TV show, "Xena, Warrior Princess," (it's satellite was named after another character on the show, Gabrielle, Xena's sidekick). The name of its satellite is now officially Dysnomia. That meeting of the IAU in Prague also resulted in Pluto being demoted to dwarf planet along with Eris. For a brief account, go here:

Our solar system is made up of a star - the Sun - eight planets, 140 moons, a bunch of comets, asteroids and space rocks, ice and several dwarf planets, such as Pluto, which was recently renamed to that title. The eight planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
