Believe it or not, the same way I tell my husband he's not my father.

I gently remind him that I already have parents and that when I am telling him something, I am telling him, not asking him to fix the situation.

Also, just come right out and tell her you need a friend, not another mother. If she can't abide by that, then you may need to re-evaluate your friendship.

Best of Luck!

The only way is just to tell them. You can not beat around the bush at something like this. If your friend is too much like a mother, Just tell them so. "______, you are my friend. but, lately you have started treating me like a child, why?" Now, unless the friend you are talking about is you Mother. Then you will have to put up with it for many years. In either case good luck to you, and I hope it works out for the best.

Not being too harsh, tell her to not be so protective and that you need room to breathe. Tell her that she's your friend, not your mother. She's need to be on the same level as you. Your friend needs to be your equal. Suggest that you do a role playing. Have you act like her as a mother, and her act like you. She might see what you mean after it.

I assume you mean that she's bossy. When she gives you "an order", simply look her right in the eye and say "I can handle this myself, thank you." If you express to her at the time that you're in charge, you won't have to feel angry about it later. If it keeps up, have a little sit-down chat with her about it. If that doesn't work, time to get a new pal.
