Draco had disarmed Dumbledore using Expelliarmus, and while the wand fell off the tower at that time and Draco never actually held it, it was still 'won' by Draco. Severus killed Dumbledore on his orders *and* Dumbledore didn't hold the wand at that time, so no matter what Voldemort thought, he wasn't its master (which made Voldemort's murder of Severus even more sad to me, it was so useless). Harry bested Draco at Malfoy manor, and while he only took Draco's regular wand he also became master of the Elder wand when that happened... that part is explained when he's facing Voldemort at the very end, Harry wonders if the wand 'knows' he defeated Draco, since the Elder wand wasn't anywhere near Malfoy manor at the time... turns out that yes, it did 'know'.

Draco was the owner of the Elder Wand because he disarmed Dumbledore on the top of the Astronomy tower at the end of HBP. Harry became the wand's master by disarming Draco in the fight at Malfoy Mansion in DH. As we keep being told, wand are subtle and tricky, which is why Harry disarming Draco was enough for the Elder Wand to shift allegiance, even though it was not the wand Harry physically took from Draco. wl

It didnt belong to Snape ever!
The elder wand only works for people when a person has defeated the owner of the elder wand in combat.
and snape never defeated dumbledore. voldemort onlt though that he did. dumbledore and snape had planned dumbledore's death so the wand could never belong to Snape.
the last person to disarm Dumbledore was Draco Malfoy and if you recall...Harry wrestled Malfoys wand out of his hand earlier in the book....this means that harry is the rightful owner of the elder wand and and it will only work properly for him!
I hope I explained that properly. If I didnt just email me and I'll try to explain better!

It was never really Snapes. Draco took it out of Dumbledores hand after Snape killed him. But since Snape and Dumbledore had set of his death, the Elder wand belonged to the first person who touched it, and that was Draco.
Since Harry overpowered Draco and took his wand, then Harry became the rightful owner to the wand.

When Draco first encounters Dumbledore on the tower in Book 6 he disarms Dumbledore. Thus 'beating' the wand's previous master. The possession passed through the successful Expeliarmus spell. Then possession passed to Harry when he grabbed the wands from Draco before running from Malfoy Manor.

Draco Malfoy was the master of the elder wand. When Harry bested Draco at Malfoy Manor, he became the master of all of Draco's wands, including the elder wand.

Harry didn't get the elder wand, and it didn't belong to Snape.
Snape killed Dumbledore, but it was agreed upon in advance, so he didn't really "win" the sword from him. It was Malfoy, however, who was supposed to do the killing and failed, which forced Snape to do it. This is why it technically belonged to Malfoy, since Dumbledore was technically killed because of him.
The sword belonged to Harry after that because Harry won Malfoy's regular wand from him earlier...I guess that means that all wands Malfoy owns now belong to Potter, including the Elder one.
In the end, Harry did not have the wand, he had Malfoy's regular wand. This wand worked for him because he won it off Malfoy in a duel. Voldemort had the elder wand, but it gave him no advantage because he did not win it...he stole it from a dead man's body, so it wouldn't have worked for him even if the wand still belonged to Dumbledore. The wand therefore did not feel allied to him and did not increase his strength.

the elder wand changes masters when someone defeats the current master. snape did not defeat dumbledore, he only did what dumbledore wanted him to, and therefore the want did not pass to him.
draco malfoy did defeat dumbledore in a duel- he disarmed him on that tower, so the wand now recongnised him as its master.
harry potter defeated draco malfoy in malfoy manor, when he escapes, so the wand is harry's.
