"Permit needs an article in front of it and permission doesn't.

Examples:
1. My mother gave me permission to miss class so I could go to the doctor.
2. The state gave me a fishing permit so I can fish in any public lake in the state.

These are both forms of the same word. When used as a noun. Permit means a license, or document authorizing something. Permission mean to give leave to do a specific thing or things.

permission is something you have to get each time you want to be permitted to do certain things.....permit is something that is allowed without getting permission
