Oh please.
Even racially biased people would not discriminate in pro sports. They want the best on their team and they want to win. You are not going to take some white guy who is bad and pass up some black guy who would hit 50hrs. It just doesnt work that way. Every team will go through streaks when they have alot of minorites and when they dont. Thats the way the yankess have been for the last 20 or so years.

I have no idea if this is true. I would hope MLB teams would not be racist, but I am not so naieve to think some are not.
One answer gave some examples of comparing Astros black and white players. OK, but your question said go back 25 years. If we do that, the 86 team had an all-minority outfield in Billy Hatcher, Kevin Bass and Jose Cruz and they had Tony Scott and Jerry Mumphrey before them.
Also, the Astros just gave Carlos Lee a HUGE contract. I don't think a true racist could ever see fit to pay a minority that kind of deal.
Also, there is often an accusation that pro teams won't keep a minority unless they are a star. But they kept Jose Vizcaino for a few years recently, until he legitimately was through.
So without further evidence, I think you are way off. MLB teams are mostly white

No major league owner would ever discriminate against a player because of his race. If the Astros happen to have 25 white players because those are the best 25 players available to them, so be it. I would wonder if you would ask about the Houston Rockets. They have 20 players listed on their 2007-08 roster - 15 are black, 4 are white, and one is Asian. Does this indicate discrimination against the white players? No - it simply means that the best players they can get tend to be African - American. The lack of black players in Major League baseball is probably a result of baseball not being played as much in the more urban areas, and the fact that most of the better black athletes now tend to gravitate towards basketball and, to a lesser degree, football. MLB is actually attempting to make strides to allow children to be exposed to the game, particularly with their RBI (Reviving Baseball in the Inner-city) program, but it will be years before you see the results of these types of programs. My thought would simply be to enjoy the game regardless of the racial make-up of the teams. Sometimes it's just a matter of numbers, and right now, we are in a period where there are more black players in the NBA, and fewer Black players in baseball. The only affirmative action that has any place in sports is to allow the best players to play, period.

The number of black players in MLB has taken a drastic hit over the past several years. A big part of the problem is a lack of places to play in the inner cities across America. The talented young black youth are going more toward basketball and football where it is easier to get a pick-up game going. This problem is actually being addressed at this time and Hank Aaron has taken the lead to see what can be done about it. MLB must take the lead to promote baseball in the inner city and do what is needed to improve the situation.

I don't think they discriminate. I think they take what they believe are the best players in their organization and put them on the big league roster.
I can't imagine any team not having a great player on their roster because that player is black or hispanic. Doesn't make sense. And if they are you'll notice it doesn't work cause Houston hasn't done much over the last 25 years, have they?

How can anyone say that baseball discriminates against minorities? Take a look at the American League's starting lineup in the last All-Star Game.
1. Ichiro Suzuki, CF
2. Derek Jeter, SS
3. David Ortiz, 1B
4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B
5. Vladmir Guerrero, RF
6. Magglio Ordonez, LF
7. Ivan Rodriguez, C
8. Placido Polanco, 2B
9. Dan Haren, P
I think your last statement was correct. You're way off.

That's just dumb! Baseball has more white players in general, that's just a fact! Just like Basketball is mostly black.
So are the Rockets discriminating? No!
Your way off. And just looking for something.

U remind me of some woman who was on the radio and said that the cardinals and tony la russa (sp?) was rascist, because the cardinals had only one black person on the team (preston wilson) who is on the DL. I will say that there arent that many blacks playing baseball, stats say they play basketball and football more then baseball.

You are probably off a bit on the issue. There is no affirmative action in baseball, but there is no expressed segregation either.
