Sorry folks.. all ur answers are probably wrong...as it remains disputed as who invented the 1st specs..but historians are convinced that they were invented between 1280 and 1375 AD in Italy...

Invention of eyeglasses----

Around 1284 in Italy, Salvino D'Armate is credited with inventing the first wearable eye glasses.

The earliest pictorial evidence for the use of eyeglasses, however, is Tomaso da Modena's 1352 portrait of the cardinal Hugh de Provence reading in a scriptorium.

Other stories, possibly 'legendary', credit Roger Bacon with the invention. Bacon is known to have made the first recorded reference to the magnifying properties of lenses in 1262. His treatise De iride ("On the Rainbow"), which was written while he was a student of Robert Grosseteste, no later than 1235, mentions using optics to "read the smallest letters at incredible distances".

I hope I have answered it right...

Spectacles were invented by knowledgeable people who knew about different kinds of lenses for eyeglasses. Spectacles are corrective lenses for nearsighted and farsighted individuals who need to improve their vision. Spectacles are really a necessary item because a lot of people are required to wear them for correcting bad eyesight.

The oldest known lenses were discovered in Ancient Nineveh, which is in the Middle East. They were made of polished rock crystal an inch and a half in diameter. The Chinese believed that spectacles had magical powers with colored glass lenses, but Chinese lenses were not prescription.

Spectacles were invented along time ago. In the year 1280 spectacles first appeared in Florence Italy. The inventor was Alessandro Spina. Around 1284 Salvino D Armate, another Italian, invented the first wearable eyeglasses. In 1571-1630 Johannes Kepler discovered the functions of the cornea, pupil, and retina.

Some spectacles are called bifocals. The inventor of bifocals was Benjamin Franklin. He discovered bifocals in 1784. Bifocals are lenses that correct nearsightedness and farsightedness combined all in one lens.

George Airy invented spectacles to correct astigmatism. Astigmatism is a condition in which the cornea of the eye is shaped like a football. People with astigmatism have blurry vision.

Modern spectacles come in a lot of different shapes and sizes. People like to change their spectacles every couple of years because of the new styles. Changing spectacles occasionally is great if you can afford them. The main thing is liking your new frames and the lenses when you purchase them.

ben franklin invented the bifocals... but did not invent spectacles.

the Roman poet/philosopher Seneca was said to have read all documents by peering through a glass globe filled with water. It was not until 1268, however, that the first lenses were made exclusively for vision correction by Roger Bacon - thus, the first pair of spectacles. And fyi, the first document in which someone uses the term "spectacles" to refer to lenses made for vision correction is dated 1289. :)

hope that helps!

Nishant S is right. Roger Bacon could have invented spectacles, but all that is known is that he wrote about the refractive powers of lenses. The time period is fairly well established, but the inventor is not known.
