Do you absolutley have to read all the Harry potter books in succession?

I have seen all the movies and I know all the characters and premise.

If I picked up this last book that was put out, would I be able to read it and understand everything for the most part ?

You will definitely not understand even half of it.The movies had no appropriate information...Mike Newell(director of Goblet of Fire)spoiled the film.Read from the fourth book and on reaching the seventh you will really enjoy it.

YOU will not understand the whole last book because the movies leave out alot of details that the books have for example the newest movie of harry potter and the order of the pheonix left out like half of the plot that it had in the book.

no no no

donot trust the movies the way u are

they are extremely infilterated with the directors own choice like the way they invented ron to tell harry about the FIRST TASK to harry using seamus

you would not be able to understand any of th things like grimauld place the movie was poorly scripted acc to the book

what am i doing i would make out a book on all that they missed out from the book

and not to mention the sixth book played a good role in the sixth not only 1-5th book

so i encourage you to read the books

trust me i am not killing your time schedule you would absolutely love spending time with harry and his best friends and relive your school years again

Sure you would understand everything without reading the other books, Ms. Rowling is a superior author. You will miss out on character evolution and growth, you will not quite "get" the interraction of all characters, protagonist/antagonist.

Agree with njyecats, movies do leave out a lot.

There are only 5 movies, there are 6 previous books, so you would be missing something important.

Also the books have things that you might need to understand later events.

Besides, they are a good read. Don't cheat yourself out of the experience.

If you don't want to buy them, you library will have them and the early volumes should be easy to checkout.

If you must, start with book six after the movies.
But really the books are 10 times better than the movies.

Book 6 must be read to understand and enjoy 7.

book 7 is very much based on book 6, they are almost like one book split in two. also, many characters are cut from the movies that appear in the books and the books are way more detailed.

you would probably not understand all of it since the movies leave so much out and change a lot of the scenes.
