First the story from the Mail.

"Accompanied by the family's campaign manager, Justine McGuinness, Mr McCann will discuss tackling child abduction with experts from the National and International Centres for Missing and Exploited Children.

He is to meet with US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales today between 12.30 and 3pm Washington DC time (between 5.30 and 8pm British time).

A McCann family spokesman said: "They want to deepen their knowledge of the legislative position in the US.

"Part of what they are thinking is that, looking further down the track, they want to try and persuade various European authorities, both at the national level and the EU level, that they should look to a more integrated process similar to that in the US.

"The laws in each EU member state are all different. Given the trafficking aspect of the issue, they would like to find a template which they could then encourage the EU member states and the EU itself to adopt."

Woah! Lets back the train up here a little,

1) What has this trip to the US specifically got to do with Madeleine. Has there been ANY evidence to date she was taken there? If not, can they please stop draining the fund on tickets to the states, plus hotel and food bills (you can bet they aren't going to be staying at the Y!)

2) Talk about a grand plan. Was it not just days ago that Gerry said he hadn't realised the scale of scope of child trafficking. Yet now he's a world expert and wants to go over so he can convince the EU to adopt a system that he himself hasn't even seen yet!!!

3) Who gave permission for a pair of child neglectors to start lecturing the EU on what system they need to adopt to prevent future cases of child neglect?

4) Who authorized this fund money to be spent in this way? People donated money on the basis it would be used to find Madeleine. NOT to be used to train Gerry up for a new career in Child Trafficking. Rather than spend money educating a fool who can't even look after his own children, would it not be better to give the money direct to International Centres for Missing Children where they already have trained experts?

Firstly the visit to the US has nothing whatsoever to do with Madeleine. I can't understand why a father would put that much distance between himself and his missing daughter, never mind his wife and remaining babies.

Secondly it galls me to the pit of my stomach that this arrogant git (who neglected his kids in the first place) thinks he has the right to lecture me about child abuse and neglect.

The only system Gerry McCann needs to worry about adopting to prevent future cases of child abduction is to properly look after his children.

Maybe if he proceeded with these visits in the hope of learning from his own personal experience, and learning from his mistakes then we would be behind him. Unfortunately we don't need this idiot on his soapbox lecturing decent parents.

I'm not sure about the fund money, just that it's not being used to find Madeleine and still isn't. Is anybody still donating to the 'fund' and is the site counter accurate?

EDIT : Justine McGuinness - it must make her feel really important again, being back in politics and visiting Capital Hill. From another question - she is being paid a 'notional' fee. Not a nominal fee. A notional fee is agreed between employer and employee and doesn't have to be divulged.

As you note Dave, when did he gain the expertise to lecture anybody? And this "Campaign Manager" title does my fecking head in. As I've said before (a few times I think) this is NOT a bloody election it's SUPPOSED to be a search for this d*ckheads missing babby! One thing seems certain - there's no searching going on. It's just not about wee Madeleine anymore, is it?

Is it just me or is this eejit distancing himself from his daughter? There is nothing whatsoever to say that the wee one was taken to USA - is that why he's there? Cos when there was sightings of her in Malta I didn't notice any mad rush to get there. No wonder people like us post these questions and answers. I cannot for the life of me, understand where the McC's - especially him - are coming from.

i asked a question before, in here, directed at people who work in the field, of missing and exploited children, the question was would they feel comfortable working with the maccanns,? one person working in this field said no, and nobody else answered, that says it all for me.
its way passed time that the bleeding heart brigade, concentrated on the main issue here, MADELEINE.
If that means hauling the parents in for interrogation, just f ucking do it, and if this finds the truth as to what happened to the child and upsets the parents in the prosess, so be it.
this is not about fundraising, jet setting, blogs gerry or kate, the pope the white house, or anything else, its about finding the truth about what became of this child,

If you read between the lines of what he is hoping to 'achieve', its basically someone elses fault. Ms clearly been abducted (according to him) and wont be found because the EU doesnt suscribe to something that the US is doing. Shame he didnt suscribe to basic child protection and parents principles, that is, to protect your children by supervising them adequately. to answer someone elses point, I work in child protection and I thought about this today, imagining in some awful future nightmare, jerrymanderer coming to my offices to give a talk at the team meeting about how I can support parents to keep their children safe. I wouldnt attend. I wouldnt be able to speak with him or look at him.

Dave, a LOT of people from the very start of this like you and me have derided the McCanns for their obvious neglect. It has really galled me that they never admitted doing anything wrong and tried to make out most people would do it. Now as if that were not galling enough we have this arrogant idiot daring to appoint himself as some sort of child protection guru when only a few short weeks ago he could not even manage the most BASIC, BASIC job in parenting - ENSURING SMALL CHILDREN ARE SUPERVISED!!!!!

Sorry this visit to the US has really would me up. When oh when will his bubble burst?!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I cannot answer this I am seething. I am so angry if I could afford it I would join this this lost for words and I cannot really put here what I would like to do to them if I caught up with them. Thousands and thousands of caring, wonderful people gave their hard earned money to find Madeleine and just look at - Oh hell words fail me. Going to log off and smash something - anything. Back later.

Yes Agree! A person who commits child neglect and abandonment of his children and a failed politician of the liberal democratic party. That says it all!!!

Yep. And people may be afraid of dealing with Gerry now, perhaps for fear of their own or other peoples children.

Simply pathetic. This man so longs to be important. He isn't. He neglected his own child. He is simply a criminal attempting to escape justice.
