I think you are talking about CAT for MBA. Its not necessary to join an institution and they don't guarantee that you will be selected in a prestigious B-School. First of all do some research that what type of questions are asked, marking system etc.

Try to get notes which these institutions provide or some sample papers of previous examinations.They are easily available in market and practice these questions.If u can't get them either then i would say search the internet for these things.At the same time read Business News, articles, current affairs as they will improve your verbal/English section.Get your basics strong in maths.Also try to converse/talk in English whenever u can.Clearing the written exam is only half the battle won.Group Discussion and Interview are equally important.
You don't have to study 24/7, even devoting few hrs in a day will work.Just be punctual, hardworking and sincere in your studies and you will succeed.And remember if 1 lac students are sitting for the exam then u are competing against 50,000 as rest of the 50,000 students come unprepared or hardly prepared.
