jk rowling said this about the seventh book
"There is a character who does manage, in desperate circumstances, to do magic quite late in life, but that is very rare..."
I've read it, I'm finished but who is this character?? I just ABSOLUTELY did not catch this....
It flew right over my head!!
Does anybody know??

i heard about that, but i heard it got dropped from the book,a lot of things JK announced were dropped, the Weasleys ford anglia was also supposed to make a reappearance, besides "late in life" implies they're very old, and I can't think of any squib(has to be a squib, doesn't it?) who does magic in the entire book!

It couldn't be Luna or Neville b/c they already do magic all the time, Neville just wasn't very good at it until the last couple of books....I don't remember, but did Filch do anything magical in the last few chapters?

What about Neville's grandmother? I know that she was already a witch, but she's the only person I can think that did magic late in life. In the book, she seemed rather powerful for an old "grandmother".

Luna was always able to do magic. But neville really got the hang of it . Then he ends up leading whats left of the D.A., now that harry, ginny, ron, hermione, and luna are all gone from hogwarts.

I've read the book twice now and that part just didn't make it in there. If I had to guess, I would have said that Filch would have been the one to have the late in life magical awakening.

Wow. That's a good question. I forgot all about that. My first thought was Hagrid, but he did magic on Harry's 11 birthday. I'll have to think about it ... Great catch!

could she have meant ariana dumbledore? i'm not sure, i mean she was magical but couldn't control it...
