I was convinced he was somehow compromised, maybe Imperio-d by death eaters or something, because he was really acting like a jerk for the first half. But then it turned out that he just genuinely wanted to run out on his wife and unborn child, to run away from his problems. Was anyone else really bothered by that? Even though he eneded going back, he needed a 17 year old boy to talk some sense into him!

Many men get totally freaked out at the prospect of having a kid. To him it probobly symbolised the end to his adventures, and thus severing the last, true connection to the memories of James, and Sirius. It took Harry to tell him, that Both his dad and Sirius wouild be happy for him, and i think that Lupin saw that he would still be loyal to his friends, even if he did stop going out and having adventures.

i dont think he was being a jerk. i mean i dont suggest it was a good idea to run out on his wife and unborn child but you can to a degree symphatise why he wanted to do it. i mean he's been a cast out all his life becasue he's a warewolf and now his wife is just about a cast out because she's married to a warewolf, imagine the kind of life his kid will have to live, so you can understand why he wants to spare his child from the embarrasment . like i've said i dont agree with it and i was glad he stayed but i did symphatised. i think he's awesome lupin!!!

He wanted the adventure. Remus was not thinking clearly about it, and Harry knew he could not tag along without finding out about their mission.

Dumbledore was strict about only the trio did it.

And, Harry did not want Remus's son to live without a father and suffer like he did.

Harry had to run him off.

I thought it was pretty realistic, he was just being stupid. All men are boys, really, even someone as studious and mature as lupin had to have a little boy in him somewhere, the baby brought it out of him. I liked it.

he panicked about being a father as well as putting his unborn and wife in jeopardy. I guess considering he's a werewolf, it was a natural reaction

I think he was just afraid--he thought he'd passed on his lupinism (aka, werewolf's disease) to his child, and he was ashamed about it. I think he thought they'd be better off without him.
