Our boy was born yesterday, and he shakes his arms quite alot.Sometimes his legs do it as well. This usually happens when he's about to cry or crying, sometimes not.
We've been told by the doctor not to worry about it.
Any thoughts anyone?

Completely normal, but, yeah, you do get very concerned and nervous with new babies!! Everything they do, you tend to monitor and assess, but not to worry, its normal and will become really cute when you eventually get used to it and calm down.

ENJOY AND CONGRATS!!!!

does he throw them up at the same time as though he is conducting an orchestra?

if so its a reflex, all healthy babies should do it.

I am sure its just because they are still adjusting to having so much room to move their limbs and I guess sometimes it shocks them to be able to.
also they do it in their sleep sometimes because they don't feel secure.
swaddling your baby for the first month when they sleep or are being held, helps them feel like they are secure like in the womb.

we used this product, its great, especially when passing her to family, it makes it easier because the blanket is not falling off all over the place

If you are bothered by the shaking, try getting a second or even third opinoin. For the most part though, children have tell which help you determne what will come next. Congratulations.

ive got 4 kids, and 2 of them did this constantly for months
its their nervous system still maturing, they get jitters in their arms and , legs,
my 3rd child did it constantly when born, so the midwife checked his sugar blood levels, but they were fine
she sent in the pediatricean and he said by 6mths it will gradually dissapear, and sure enough at 5 !/2 mths he stopped completely
dont stress about it, everything is fine, xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I've never heard of it. I've had 4 babies myself.
Get a second opinion to put your mind at ease. Even call the local hospital and ask to talk to the maternity section.

my baby did that too and when i asked my doc...my doc said not to be so critical of her when she was just 2 days old"..anyways i did not understand that statement :)
but i guess its normal and thats how babies excercise and spend energy...one thing for sure ur baby is active...atleast mine who started wiggling from day 2 is...and keeps me occupied 24/7...dont worry..guess its normal and also normal that you as new parents would keep worrying at every minure stuff...good luck
