I heard that America buys acres of field from Dominica and other caribbean countries and pays the country and the people who work there approx 20 pence per worker a day.
So i guess another thing is hate america's government for, it seems they think they are not rich and selfish enough yet. I pray that america gets a much fairer government soon, maybe the world would but a slightly better place. Anyway is this true?

The U.S. does not grow bananas. They grow in tropical regions.

If you really want to get mad, read the history of the United Fruit company.

it is true that Multi-national companies that are based in the US and that heavily lobby the US Government such as Chiquita, Del-Monte and others own vast plantations in Ecuador, Panama, Dominica and other South American countries, where, they pay subsistence wages to the workers, force them to purchase all their goods in over priced company stores, effectively making the workers slaves.

It is true that these companies do not obey US laws about their employees, stating that they follow the laws of the lands their plantations are in, and that they do not obey the laws in those countries siting US law as to why they don't have to. The minimum wage exists in many South American countries and it is flouted by most American based companies.

It is true that the children of these workers often are diseased, have no medical, often are undernourished and cannot leave their plantations for schooling.

It is Untrue that the US cannot grow bananas. They will grow along the southern coast, and in Southern California and along the southern eastern seaboard.

It is also true that most Americans don't believe this is happening. Take it from one American who has gone out there and seen it himself, who was shot at by the guards paid to keep intruders out. Not me, I hasten to say, but a reporter for the Financial Times. They really do, keep slaves down there, all in the name of creating more American wealth.

That we do not grow our own bananas has to do with geography and climate, not politics. In fact, if American owned businesses buy or lease land in another country and plant it with bananas, aren't we "growing our own" in effect? And if those countries feel the wages of the banana workers are too low, they certainly have the right to pass legislation to set a decent minimum wage. That's not an American thing, that's the decision of the country in which the bananas are being grown.

P.S. Kandoo, I don't think significant numbers of bananas are grown in either Florida or southern California. Perhaps there are a few, but nothing compared to how many are eaten in this country.

This is not true. There are some Americans who grow their own herbs, fruits and veggies. Just like in other countries. Not everyone grows because to them it is too much. But people these days are either lazy or too busy.

I think that everyone should grow their own foods and this would also include their own living stock (animals). But in the modern would that would be too much for most to handle. I just personally think most americans and people in general are too lazy.

Bananas don't grow in the US. What country do you live in? Do you grow all your own food?

And the US government has nothing to do with it. The government is not in the banana business. Companies buy property and grow bananas.

Yes, we have no bananas, we have no bananas today.
