I think that men who cheat want to have their cake and eat it too! In other words, they like having the security of a wife and family but also like having a mistress or one night stands to build up their ego and make them feel better about theirselves. These men are usually very immature and give many excuses for cheating. It's all an ego booster and means nothing to them. If they get a divorce, they won't have anyone at home to take care of them and wait on them hand and foot. (like a mother)
Another reason men cheat and don't divorce is because of material possessions and things that are owned together like a house, cars, furniture, money, etc. He doesn't want to lose any of the things he's worked hard for, so he cheats.
The third excuse men use is the children. "I don't want to lose my son, etc."
The biggest excuse men use for cheating (in my opinion) is "I don't get any attention from my wife in the bedroom & she no longer feels anything for me." Well, why did you marry her in the first place?"(I ask)
Some men actually can't help themselves. It's a shame when a woman is in a marriage such as this. Some women accept it because they don't want to be alone and like the man's money to spend and would rather be left alone in the bedroom.
Myself, I'd rather be alone than be cheated on!!

B/c they want their cake and eat it too. Meaning they want the wife which most men treat a wife as their mother and the wife will do all the cooking cleaning and to take care of the bills mean while the mistress is being treated as a queen. Most men are cowards that can't confess and would rather lie about it then to loss their married mothers...

may i ask u why this anger only on men?? how abt women who cheat but dont divorce??? i guess in either of the cases it is just a personality trait or if i can say some ppl are born rascals and always look for the easy way out!

I agree with the comment above that the word "cheat" is pejorative. Some marriages accommodate different views of marriage, and some may even allow for intimacy with others. That being said, why men (or women) "cheat" is obviously in human nature. It's instinctual, as is the jealousy that it obviously engenders (just read the angry comments in this thread-those aren't rational either). In fact, 1 in 5 children is not from the male parent who is raising it. Probably not such a bad thing for the survival of the species, even if it is hard to swallow for those who can't deal with it. So to answer the question, if a man cheats and can be honest about it with his wife, why should leave her? It is up to her to make the decision if she wants to be still be with him. I am sure most of the women out there will be up in arms about this point of view though.

Because breaking up the family unit can be quite scary for a man OR woman for that matter. For some people it is easier to have a duel life than cause a huge disruption in their nest.

I can tell you why I didn't divorce -- because I loved my wife and I wanted to remain married to her. I don't see how cheating can be necessarily perceived as a desire not to be married. Sure, many people who cheat don't want to be married. However, many people who cheat do want to remain married to their spouses. I cheated because of a serious defect in my own character, not due to anything my wife had done wrong. She was still the same, wonderful woman I had married the day after I cheated on her as she was the day before. I didn't want to divorce her then, and I still don't want to divorce her today.

Because they think they can get away w/ cheating =(...because they know a divorce is costly...especially if there are kids involved...because they think their wife will never find out...well, the truth always...always...comes out, lol! some men just don't ever get it...=(...

Kids and finances. It's not just about paying child support or alimony. It's about how often you can see your kids. It's about not being able to put them to bed at night, or to be there when they wake up. It's about the disruption it will cause in their lives. It's about the crap you will get from your family. It's about figuring out how you will balance birthdays and holidays without it being too hard on your kids.
