Sounds like the Blue Screen Of Death, as most people have come to refer to it. Or it's a Kernel panic. Basically, something's most likely wrong with your computer. You might want to have a friend with some technical experience to look at it for you, or take it into a shop and get looked at.
Or, if you have some knowledge you could try and fix it yourself. Usually somethings corrupt and a format and re-install of your Operating System should fix this.

Check using Event Viewer to get the exact error message.
Double click Administrative Tools in Control Panel and select Event Viewer.
There are 3 or 4 sections. It is likely to be in the Application or System section. Double click the Error and a small window will appear. There will be a link to Microsoft for more information and a possible solution.

This is a common feature of the Microsoft operating system, it's a system that is badly designed with dreadful security!
Change to another system like Linux or get a Mac instead!

Agree with Matthew. BSOD, blue screen of death, usually means serious trouble with your motherboard, hard drive, something is corrupt and ultimately your computer will die. sorry
