I'm not so sure I'd call it important, but it satisfies a curiosity that many of us have concerning the question of where did we come from. I may have an interest in my ancestors, but I don't feel it necessary that I, or anyone else, have to find out and track their history down. But to each his own.

to gain wisdom and knowledge about the past. to discover how they overcame various problems, situations and complications in their lives so we can adapt them to solve some of ours. to point with pride about what our ancestors have accomplished in making this world a better place and trying our best to answer their challenges to improve what they did. thus we will leave an even bigger challenge for the younger generation to do better than we have.

I personally do not find such things are important. What matters is what I am and not what any of my relatives are/were/will be.

for some of us like myself..its to understand and show appreciation for how it is we got where we are
for others like scientists and scholars its to tweak the truth and have ppl believe all ppl came from Africa to cover up European post-Imperialism guilt.
